Lady Slipper Orchids

Lady Slipper Orchids

A week ago I went to North Yorkshire with Richard Revels and Stan Saunders to photograph the Lady Slipper Orchids. These we found at the Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve in the Arnside and Silverdale area. The orchids were in perfect condition and we were fortunate to have almost ideal conditions for plant photography, slightly overcast with virtually no wind.

Lady Slipper Orchids - 100mm Macro Lens
The two pictures above show the difference between using a 400mm lens and a 100mm lens. I prefer the longer lens because it blur`s the background more and makes the subject stand out more.

We found other plants to photograph in the `grikes` on the Limestone Pavement area.

Tutsan - a variety of the St. John`s Wort plant. Only just starting to come into flower.

On the way up we stopped near the Ribblehead Viaduct, and walked up to the well know Limestone Pavement area. Fortunately, we were lucky with the weather and with good cloud formations in the background we all took some nice landscapes.
