Barn Owl - Welney

Barn Owl - Welney

A week ago I made a visit to Welney Bird Reserve. This is part of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.  Whilst I did go into the centre for a coffee, I spent most of the morning driving along the approaching side road to the reserve. I had been told by someone from Kings Lynn Camera Club, where I had given a talk the previous evening, that Barn Owls were well known to sit on posts along the left hand side of the road as you approach the reserve. Apparently, they take no notice of cars as you drive past or even stop. Providing you stay in the car and photograph them from there, they take very little notice of you !
All shots taken with a Canon 5D Mark III and an `old` 600mmF4 + 1.4TeleConverter.

Although this bird looks like a captive one, (because of the `ring` on it leg), you will find that nowadays most young Barn Owls are ringed as chicks so that they can be identified and monitored .
